"SoundSmith" is an Apple IIgs tracker created by Huibert Aalbers. In addition to the main music file the songs typically require additional ASIF (Apple IIgs Sampled Instrument Format) files - which can be replaced by a combined DOC RAM dump (aka wavebank) file. Respective Wavebank files sometimes use extensions like “.D”, “.W” or “.DOC”. All respective files in Modland use the wavebank approach (to keep things tidy) and use ".W" as a naming convention. (Respective files can be created using SoundSmith's "Save Wavefile" function.) There is an unreleased "SoundSmith" derivate called "MegaTracker" created by Ian Schmidt (see MTPng or "MegaTracker Player, the Next Generation"). Respective music files can be recognized by their custom magic bytes at the start of the file ("IAN**K" instead of "SONGOK"). It has nothing to to with the Megatracker from the Atari Falcon.
