2.4 OTHER AXS.INI SETTINGS

Besides the settings stored in AXS.INI for sound- and MIDI-devices, there are a few settings which affect the graphical interface and the audio quality. These settings are described below.

Audio settings
    SAMPLERATE=8192..48000 (Hz)
      The samplerate determines how many samples are calculated every second. Higher rates will increase the audio quality (especially higher notes) but will also require more CPU power. Note that the value you place here is a requested samplerate. It may be possible your sound device does not support that exact samplerate. In that case AXS, at startup, shows you which samplerate it is really using.

    STEREO=ON/OFF
      When stereo output is activated the effects engine will produce a stereo output signal. Stereo output greatly enhances the audio quality but requires a bit more CPU power.

    AWE64SPDIF=ON/OFF
      When this is enabled, the AWE64 wave output is sent to the S/PDIF connector. This works only on AWE64 cards and does not affect other SB cards.

    EXACTSAMPLERATE=ON/OFF
      Previous version of AXS calculated the exact samplerate at which a soundcard was playing. However, when using digital output those calculations are not correct. This switch enables you to disable this samplerate calculation (at least for SB). Only useful in conjunction with AWE64SPDIF=ON.

    MAXVOICES=1..64
      This setting determines how many voices can be playing at one time. You can normally leave this at 64 and lower the samplerate when you're CPU power runs out. However setting it to a lower value can be useful in live situations where you want to be absolutely sure your CPU does not stress out when playing some tunes.
      Remember voices with a long amplitude release time are great at using up voices. If you're creating a song and you're out of CPU power, check if maybe there's an instrument with an unnecessary long release time.

    DRUMKIT=.drm filename
      The drumkit setting can be used to automatically load an AXS drumkit file when starting AXS. The filename can be relative to the AXS directory or absolute.

User interface settings
    WAITFORKEY=ON/OFF
      This settings determines if AXS waits for a keypress at startup. Normally it is enabled so you can see if all devices have initialised properly. When an error occurs, AXS will wait for a keypress regardless of this setting.

    MIDIGUI=ON/OFF
      This setting can be used to disable the VESA 2.0 graphical user interface. What you end up with is a sound module, without an interface but, like always, fully MIDI controllable.

    COLORSET=0..4
      This setting determines the color palette used by the graphical user interface.

      • 0 = Classic blue
      • 1 = Very fake wood
      • 2 = Swedish red
      • 3 = Jungley green
      • 4 = Frosty gray

    FOOLMOUSE=ON/OFF
      If you're experiencing mouse problems (especially when the mouse can not move across the screen properly) try setting FOOLMOUSE=ON. AXS will then use a different method of initialising your mouse, which hopefully fixes the problem.

    WINSTYLEKNOB=ON/OFF
      Enable this setting if you want to rotate knobs using vertical mouse movement. When disabled, knobs will react to horizontal mouse movement.
